AB 2993:

Assembly Bill 2993 (Firebaugh), which passed last session, called for establishment of a committee to develop incentives for making urban/wildland interface communities firesafe. There had been urging that two Fire Safe Council representatives be named to that committee, and it has happened. CDF Director Andrea Tuttle has appointed California FSC Vice President Ken Blonski and FSC member Jay Watson to that committee.

AB 1216 Update:

AB 1216 has been the subject of much discussion at FSC meetings. AB 1216 gives the State Fire Marshal statutory authority to expand fire safety building standards in high risk areas, including components such as roofs, exterior walls, windows, porches, decks and eaves.

CDF and the Fire Marshal's office say it will save lives, minimize property damage and protect fire fighters and the environment.

The bill has passed the Assembly and is now set to be heard by the Senate Natural Resources Committee on Tuesday, July 8th, in Capitol hearing room 112. Hearing time is 9:30 a.m. (or later; upon adjournment of Senate if it holds a floor session that day.)

Input or comments on the bill can be sent to Assemblyman Vargas, or directed to the Senate Natural Resources Committee.

Letters on the bill can be sent to:
Assembly member Juan Vargas
