Dr. David Horne
David Horne (Ph.D., University of Michigan) is currently a Professor of Marketing at California State University Long Beach. Dr. Horne has served as the Associate Dean and the MBA Director at the College of Business Administration on the Long Beach campus. He teaches several graduate and undergraduate Marketing courses as well as International Business. Professor Horne's research has been published in the International Journal of Service Industry Management, European Journal of Innovation Management, Research in Consumer Behavior, Psychology and Marketing, Current Issues in Research and Advertising, the Association for Consumer Research Proceedings, the American Academy of Advertising Proceedings, and the American Marketing Association Proceedings. He has also edited a book about consumer's recovery from disasters entitled Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water: Perspectives on Natural Disasters. Dr. Horne and his wife lost their home in Laguna Beach during the Firestorm of October 1993. He was the founding president of the Mystic Hills Homeowner's Association, which represented over 220 families who lost their homes in the fire. The Association's efforts were geared toward creating a positive recovery climate so that individual homeowners could fully concentrate on their rebuilding efforts. Dr. Horne continues to be involved with local and statewide efforts to raise awareness of fire related issues and to work toward feasible, cooperative solutions. He began a series of meetings in Laguna Beach between city officials and insurance industry executives that evolved into one of the first Fire Safe Councils in the state. Dr. Horne served as a keynote speaker at the "California Under Fire Partnership Summit" in Diamond Bar in June 1997, and he was the Master of Ceremonies for "The Alliance for a Fire Safe California Second Partnership Event" held in Irvine in March 1999. He addressed the 1999 annual meeting of the California Fire Administration Conference and California Fire Chiefs Association and several Urban Forest Council Regional Workshops. Dr. Horne also organized and served on a panel discussion about Laguna Beach's recovery from the 1993 fire that took place at the 1996 Statewide League of Cities Conference in Anaheim.
