Great news! We have received grant funding for the year 2009. This grant is for approximately $138,000.00! Of course, there will be matching funds that we need to provide as a community. We’ll need everyone to clip their work sheets from our newsletters and return them to Wende at the appropriate time. Remember even simple weed abatement around your house is still weed abatement and the time spent can be applied to our matching funds for the grant.

This grant will allow us to continue our efforts in maintaining our community’s fire safety. It will also provide funding for equipment rental or the hiring of work crews to clear brush within the community where masticating equipment can’t reach (i.e. steep hillsides). Fortunately, USFS continues to improve the fire breaks around our community and have completed some prescribed burning in the past few months. It’s always nice to see them on the road!

We owe many thanks to Wende, once again, for her expertise in grant writing and the application process. We should also thank those within the US Forest Service and the California and San Diego Fire Safe Councils for their continued support.

At a Carveacre Fire Safe Council Meeting this spring, new elections were held for the CREHOA Board Members. Results are as follows;

Please contact any of your elected board members if you should have any questions regarding the Homeowner’s Association, the Fire Safe Council, or the Road Association.

Community meetings are held the 32rd to last Sunday of the month. Watch for the reminder signs at the fork. Come join us for good conversation and great potluck foods!

Eagle Scout Project Protects Carveacre

USFS and Alpine Fire both requested it, so Malachi did it: what Carveacre needed to help first responders work during an emergency was signage. The purchase and installation of non-flammable street signs and reflective, uniform address markers became a unique Eagle Scout project that truly serves the community.

Throughout the winter and spring, Malachi worked on the project, first sending out permission letters to all the homeowners in the neighborhood, then researching and ordering all of the materials to do the job, and finally organizing work crews to do the installations.

He faced many challenges along the way. CREHOA had applied for grant funding for the project, but the funds were not enough, and Malachi had to find a way to raise the difference. The street sign manufacturer was difficult to work with, and the first batch of address markers refused to set in their molds.

Malachi raised over $4,000 in donations towards the project, and–together with his volunteer crew–worked 256 hours.
