October 6-12, 2002

For eighty years, Fire Prevention Week (FPW) has been observed across the nation to increase awareness of the dangers of fire and the simple ways to stay safer from it. This year, FPW is October 6-12. As the official sponsor of FPW, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has selected this year's FPW theme, "Team Up for Fire Safety."

This is an excellent opportunity to team up with your local CDF Unit or fire department, who have been encouraged to implement local FPW activities, to direct public attention to ways to reduce the risk of wildfire by clearing defensible space in preparation for fire season.

In addition, you can easily access the fully-downloadable FPW 2002 Online Kit from the official FPW Web site: www.firepreventionweek.org, which includes a collection of free FPW materials, including in-school and take-home educational resources.

Thank you,
